Insane rantings at DailyKos

I normally ignore DailyKos because the “reality-based community” (they honestly refer to themselves as such) is so chock-full of wanna-be communists, “truthers” and other whackos that almost everything written there is over-the-top conspiratory conjecture. Well, they now seem to think that Bush will strike Iran in four days:

We have four days to head off a war with Iran.

Read the whole post here (I didn’t) — they honestly believe on they can stop Bush from starting a war with Iran. It’s nothing but a Quixotic fantasy. When will the media hold DailyKos, the most visited political blog on the internet by a wide margin, accountable for the ridiculous nonsense on that site?

My challenge to atheists

Here’s a simple two-item list which demonstrates that atheists place the same amount of faith in science as theists do in God:

  • Where did life come from? Every theory or scientific experiment which was intended to show the origination of life from non-life has failed (e.g. the Miller experiment, RNA world hypothesis). Even if the infinitely remote possibility of generating life from non-life were realized, it would be in a controlled environment that was artificially injected with intelligence — something that strongly violates the supposed conditions of a primordial earth. Simply put, science cannot explain the existence of life and it does not seem likely that it ever will.
  • Where did consciousness come from? It is not simply a matter of determining of how consciousness could have arisen from non-consciousness. We, as conscious beings, cannot quantify and describe what constitutes consciousness in the first place. To find a solution to a problem that cannot even be described is impossible.

My challenge is this: how can an atheist assail a theist for believe that God is the answer to the above questions? I mean, doesn’t an atheist believe without any proof that science will be able to answer these questions?

More ammunition against gun control

In 1997, Great Britain instituted a comprehensive gun ban. Ten years later, what are the results? Gun crimes have doubled. Although the UK still has relatively little gun crime when compared to the US, there’s no denying the surge of gun violence following the ban.

NFL: Dog fighting worse than drug dealing or murder

Today, the NFL suspended Michael Vick indefinitely for his role in a dog fighting scheme uncovered earlier this year. Ironically, the NFL did not hand out such severe punishments to Jamal Lewis for dealing drugs, or to Leanard Little for a fatal DUI accident — they both still play in the NFL.

We may conclude that, in the eyes of the NFL, making dogs fight is somehow worse than selling drugs or killing people. Is that messed up or what?

Why don’t Americans like soccer?

An article in the Boise Weekly newspaper grabbed my attention while eating a few weeks ago. The author was pondering why Americans really don’t care for soccer. David Beckham’s trade to the LA Galaxy apparently was the motivation for writing the article in the first place.

The Boise Weekly is a liberal paper by Idaho’s standards; I just knew what I would find if I bothered to read the article.

And I was right. Allegedly, Americans don’t like soccer because we’re incapable of focusing for more than 10-15 seconds — the length of the average (American) football play. We’re just not intelligent enough to understand the subtle nuances of soccer the way that Europeans can. And, if that wasn’t insulting enough, Americans don’t like soccer because we suck at it compared to the rest of the world.

Sadly, this article just reinforced the way I see many lefties — desperate, hapless Euro wannabes. The author doesn’t even take time to analyze non American-bashing reasons why soccer isn’t popular in the US, he just chalks it up to American ignorance. That’s a fail-safe argument when you’re a liberal. Pretty much everything America does sucks when compared to Europe.

So pardon me for getting a little pissed off at this author and anyone who casually bashes American this in favor of European that. It seems that now, more than ever, America-bashing en vogue. It’s disheartening to see people badmouthing this country like they take everything it provides us for granted.

Last time I checked, Western Europe had a pretty lenient immigration policy. How about you ditch this squalid hellhole in favor of European utopia? Not going anywhere? Why am I not surprised?

Free thought not welcome

It should be clear now that American universities are not interested in free thought and the open exchange of ideas. Today’s university student will find that ideas and speech which are contrary to established leftist ideals will not be tolerated.

J. Michael Bailey, a psychology professor at Northwestern University, learned the hard way of the precious little room for independent thought:

In his book [J. Michael Bailey], he argued that some people born male who want to cross genders are driven primarily by an erotic fascination with themselves as women. This idea runs counter to the belief, held by many men who decide to live as women, that they are the victims of a biological mistake — in essence, women trapped in men’s bodies.

In short, Dr. Bailey was ostracized by colleagues and inundated with complaints from academics and transgendered women who claimed to have been offended. One professor even went so far as to compare Dr. Bailey’s work with Nazi propaganda. He became depressed and stepped down from his position as chairman of the psychology department.

Would any of this have happened if Dr. Bailey had published work that affirmed traditional leftist positions? Of course not. Dr. Bailey was punished for presenting research that was in opposition to the liberal academic establishment.

Wikipedia name-calling frenzy and the death of objective journalism

Here’s what we know so far:

  • Jews are Nazis - al-Jazeera (source)
  • (The late) Oriana Fallici is a racist whore - the UN (source)
  • Bush is a wanker - the BBC (source)
  • Condeleeza Rice is a “concert penis” - The New York Times (source)
  • generally adding mean things and removing nice things about prominent liberal figureheads - Fox News (source)

I wanted to do a post about the death of objective reporting, but this here speaks volumes. No longer are reporters unbiased channels of information; nowadays journalists are advocates. Sources like CNN and the BBC and al-Jazeera have a consistently leftist viewpoint, and these edits tend to confirm that. Fox News slants to the right, and their not-so-stealthy Wiki edits demonstrate that as well.

Update:

Here’s a running list of questionable Wikipedia edits and the people behind them. Very interesting.
